Organization bylaws are a set of rules and procedures used to determine how an organization will run. They are a vital tool, defining the relationships, duties, and responsibilities of the people who are elected to manage the organization. From time to time, the Board of Directors reviews the bylaws to identify outdated language and practices to insure that the bylaws are in accord with the law and to make for the best possible governing document.

The current LAABP Executive Board has worked diligently with a non-profit attorney, Nancy McCullough, to draft bylaws that will promote and protect the interests of the organization.

Now is the time for membership review and input. Please take this opportunity to review the proposed LAABP bylaws (in their entirety).  If you have any questions, concerns, or suggestions, please use the form below to submit your correspondence.
In general, the current proposed revisions align operations with current Non-profit Corporation Law of California, but by no means change how we operate or serve the membership. Other notable changes include:
  • Provisions  to allow for electronic means of communication
  • Clarification of guidelines for Board Action
  • Establishment of Standing and Ad Hoc Committees
  • Creation of two classes to allow for staggered elections
  • Policy language moved to policy manual
Click here for the proposed Bylaw revision to be presented to the membership on January 10, 2019.
Once the review period has ended, the LAABP Executive Board will provide responses to the most commonly asked questions, as well as provide a voting date/procedures to approve the bylaws.

2016 ELECTION UPDATE

The Executive Board of the Los Angeles Association of Black Personnel, Inc. thanks you for your patience as we have worked to resolve the challenges presented in regards to the 2016 Executive Board Election. As stated previously, the Board retained the Law Office of Nancy L. McCullough to provide counsel and a legal determination regarding the validity of the election and also to provide recommendations.
Ms. McCullough has completed her legal review and submitted her recommendations. The Board will be meeting later on tonight to discuss the recommendations and how to move the organization forward. Please click on the link below to read Ms. McCullough legal determination and recommendations.
We are optimistic that we will have a plan of resolution to present to the membership by the end of this week. Again we thank you for your patience and appreciate your support.
